Wow, TiVoCast is really on a roll. They just keep adding channels, it seems like every day there is something new. Today E. Stephen Mack, Director of TiVoCast Operations, announced that VOD Cars and SPEED Channel have joined the TiVoCast lineup.

Well, the technical issue is going to be the codec - all S2/S2DT units can only do MPEG2, and are fussy about the specific settings. The S3 and HD have the hardware for MPEG-4/H.264 and VC-1/WMV, but haven’t enabled those yet.
I think the TiVoCast approach works for TiVo’s market - geeks can use things like Galleon which can download and transcode other content which can then be moved onto the TiVo. Or they’ll have media center extenders, Xboxes, etc.

Any serious podcaster can work with TivoCast — we sought them out and they were great and really responsive to getting us on board. The TivoCast team was incredibly helpful in helping us export our videos and prepare our graphics in the right format to work on any Tivo box, Series 2 or higher. One of the reasons they’ve added so many lately is that we’ve added several of our networks at once, with their help (VOD Cars, Channel Frederator, ThreadBanger, and many others). Hopefully our working together will be a step on the way towards other online companies with great content, like Revision3 and Blip.tv, to get their series onto TivoCast, which could lead to an explosion of online series available there.

Megazone, that’s music to our ears (also dig your handle, is it from the awesome 80’s anime?). We’d love to hear what other kinds of shows you’d like to see from Next New, and please keep watching…

Yes, I originally picked it up in 1989 as my login in college, taking it from MegaZone 23 part 1. It went from there until I made it my legal name.
